I think I speak for all of us when I say that last night was not quite what we expected. It was a long night. A very long night and for a number of reasons. I don’t want to dive into too much detail as I feel the matter don’t really deserve any more airtime, energy or discussion, but let’s just say that when you end up on bus for 7 hours (to chase the Aurora) with a hyperactive 8-year-old and a loud dad that swears like a sailor, is out to defend every nation, race and religion, and who gets totally aggressive and confrontational with anyone who dares to LOOK in their direction, then a night that could have been great fun becomes a complete disappointment, very quickly.

Anyway, moving on. This morning, we were off to a slow start as we only got to bed at around 03:00 am. After breakfast we decided to pack our bags with some supplies, which included dry fire wood, before hiking up the mountain to the viewing point. The world around us was peaceful and quiet as we just sat there, listening to the crackling sounds of our fire, enjoying the beautiful view of the Fjord and sipping ice cold beers in sub zero temperatures. It’s an experience that is hard to explain, yet, one that completely recharges your soul. It’s one of those moments you wish would never end.

To end of a very relaxed day, we decided to play card games in the cabin which included the F*R*I*E*N*D*S board game. Let’s just say Elaine has a scary good F*R*I*E*N*D*S knowledge and you really must think twice before you challenge her. Tomorrow we plan to discover a bit more of the local Tromsø shops and coffee shops before we head out to a Reindeer farm in the afternoon.

Hope you all had a wonderful first day of 2020.

Good night
