Over the last few days, we’ve been patiently waiting for the Aurora to occur but had no luck of seeing it. In fact, when we checked in on day one, we only had ONE house rule: “If anyone sees the Aurora, then you notify the entire house immediately regardless of the time of day”. This meant, even if you got up in the middle of the night to go to the loo and you see any solar activity, then you wake up the entire house and it’s all systems go! We were on standby 24/7, had our gear ready to go and the cameras mounted to their tripods, but for the full duration of the trip, we didn’t use that protocol once.

So today got interesting. You see, a weird thing happens when 5 people are sitting in a log cabin for days, just waiting for the Aurora to appear whilst trying to drink up all the wine they bought because they can’t fly it back home tomorrow. They get very creative! But the evening took a whole new turn when Lauren remembered she brought some glow sticks with her and instead of waiting for the Northern Lights to appear, we could make our own lights! So we went outside…and did just that:

So there you have it – when life gives you glow sticks, go outside in the cold and make your neighbours think you’re crazy!

Tomorrow we return to London whilst Nico and Cinthya embarks on their Norwegian road trip.

Ok, I think it’s time to get some coffee…
