It’s a trip we’ve booked over 18 months ago, a trip that Elaine’s been dreaming about for over 15 years – the Arctic with log cabins, glass igloos and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights. Today, the dream trip finally arrived!

At 10:00 am this morning, we departed from London Heathrow on a 3-hour flight to Finland’s capital. Upon arrival in Helsinki, the snow covered city greeted us with a light winter breeze and bits of sunshine. About an hour later, we boarded our second flight to Ivalo, flying 2 hours directly north into the heart of the Arctic circle.

We arrived shortly after 19:00 at the famous Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort and to be honest, it all feels like a dream! The amount of snow, the temperature, the scenery around the hotel, the fact that you must take your luggage to your room using a sled, the green and pink glow in the night sky – it feels unreal.

Tonight we are staying in a cozy log cabin whilst temperatures outside drop to around -10’C. Tomorrow we’ll go husky sledding and do a reindeer safari!

We are beyond excited and will keep you posted as we go 🙂
