It’s 23:00 and have safely arrived at Rio’s Galeão International Airport after our 11-hour flight with British Airways.

It’s our first time in Brazil so we are super excited to see the country, meet the people, taste the food and experience the vibe of Latin America.

Our first thoughts upon arrival in Rio (from the airport to the hotel):

  • English is non-featuring, not even at border control, customs or shops at the airport.
  • Driving is extreme, even more extreme than Mauritius or South Africa. If I had to compare it to a TV game called “extreme driving – don’t die” then South African driving is level 3, Mauritian driving is level 8 and Brazilian driving is level 15. I think only India might be worse 🙂
  • The city is very beautiful however the outskirts of Rio reminds us of Khayelitsha.
  • If you don’t know where to look for Christ the Redeemer, you’ll probably miss it at night.

That’s it for now, off to bed we go!
