It’s great to be back in the Scottish capital and when we opened our curtains this morning, it was sunny and blue skies. Keep in mind that it snowed here yesterday, so we made a run for it to ensure we make the most of the day.
From the hotel we got our own little Uber taxi that drove us to Edinburgh Castle. The castle stands upon an extinct volcano which is estimated to have risen about 350 million years ago. It’s also the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photos, but believe me, they were truly beautiful.
Next, we strolled down the Royal Mile to Arthur’s seat. Arthur’s Seat is the main peak of the group of hills in Edinburgh. The hill rises above the city to a height of 250.5 m and provides excellent panoramic views of the city, it’s relatively easy to climb and is popular destinations for locals and tourists.
After catching our breaths we decided to visit Calton Hill. Calton Hill not only provides the best view over the city, but is also the headquarters of the Scottish Government. We spent about an hour on the hill just enjoying the view and the sun before heading up North for a late lunch. At the harbour we enjoyed a wonderful lunch – fantastic seafood, amazing ocean views and off course, South African wine.
Back at the hotel we decided to take advantages of the hotel’s “Healthy Living Centre” and jumped in the heated indoor pool and jacuzzi!
Tomorrow we have an early start and we plan to drive up North to the Scottish Highlands all the way to Loch Ness. If all goes well, we will also have dinner tomorrow night in Glasgow.
We’ll keep you posted.
Good night.
